The trial of PC Simon Harwood is to begin on Monday at Southwark Crown Court. PC Harwood is charged with manslaughter following the death of Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests in London on April 1st 2009.

At the inquest into Mr Tomlinson’s death in 2011, a jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing, leading the Crown Prosecution Service to bring charges against PC Harwood.

Family Calls for Permanent Memorial To Ian Tomlinson

Ian Tomlinson's family are marking the third anniversary of Ian's death with the launch of a petition, which calls on the City of London Corporation to agree to the creation of a permanent memorial at the spot where he died.

With the manslaughter trial coming soon in June, the family have decided not to make any further comment on the anniversary, but believe that a plaque marking where Ian died would be a fitting tribute to his memory - and ensure that his death is not forgotten.

PC Harwood trial date set after officer pleads not-guilty

Following the Plea and Case Management hearing on 17 October 2011, at which PC Simon Harwood denied charges of manslaughter for the death of Ian Tomlinson, a trial date has been set for 13 June 2012. His trial is expected to last four to five weeks.

Harwood showed 'no emotion' during the 20-minute hearing at Southwark crown court during which he pleaded not guilty.
